January 20, 2003,
Gallaudet University
Washington, D.C.

The alarm clock blaring, my hand searched to find the snooze button. “Why did the hell I signed up for 8 a.m. class?” I told myself. Glance at the clock, it read out 7:48 a.m. “Oh sh*t!” I trampled over the dirty clothes as I get dress up and grab my messenger bag and zoom out the door. Whilst, I checked my pocket for pen meanwhile I realized I forgot my room key. “Oh great, I locked myself out!”, I thought.

I checked my watch and it shows 7:55 a.m. “Jeez!” It is about almost 1/4 mile walking distance. As I walk briskly down the sidewalk sandwiched between the building. The high speed wind funneling through the building as I lean forward against it. Didn’t I mention that year, we had few heavy snowstorms? Do you think this make me a happy camper. HELL NO!

Upon my arrival with rosy cheek, I nearly made it. I sighed with a relief. I must admit, I am tad shocked because the classroom was full. The 8 a.m. class, something funny must be going on? I almost I felt I was in the wrong class. The class was not full of brown-nosing students, prim-perfect students, or straight A students. It was diverse. There is a sorority gal, a baseball player, a metrosexual car enthustiant, a goth party girl, a cyclist from China, a girl who have shy in her name, a rock climber from plains, and an actor pledged for the elite fraternity. I glanced and I recognized the students. I know that some students who will easily ditched the class. It was first day of school and that mean it is going to be all about syllabus and introduction. No biggie if I miss the class. They could have sleep in. Why didn’t we ditch?

The professor entered the classroom. He quickly strike as a jolly fellow with a thick beard and medium long hair wearing a Kangol hat. He retorted, “I am growing my hair longer for the upcoming event, Lock of Love, to donate to the illness children who need hair”. He was the most intriguing teacher I had. The class was always engrossed in exciting discussions. the professor always add extra information that no textbook maybe ever published. He was a master storyteller. He would told the story about his life and how it define who he become. The professor was a philanthropic New Yorker Jew with advanced degree in psychology and counseling with a passion for radio control airplane. The Dead Poets Society had John Keating, and we had Dr. Stephen Weiner.

Aha! No wonder the classroom was full. It turn out that I was lucky I had the best professor and the funniest class.

The first day of class transformed me. I look forward getting out of bed going to that 8 a.m. class and ready to discuss about something very interesting. Every time I going to that class and I leave a better person. There was no need for morning coffee.

The public speaking class helped my meek spirit blossomed into a confident person. I was a poster boy who clenched behind the podium, stare directly at the paper and almost no word coming out me. The training has given me the skills I need to lead the organization, become a better listener, and able to get my messages across clearly. Now, you will find me on an open stage in front of thousand people giving an animated speaking.

Today, this professor, Dr. Stephen Weiner, is the provost of Gallaudet University. He is the man who put the foundation under the castle and he maintains high standard of operation where the student can make the best investment of their lifetime.

I want to share a wonderful textbook that was used for my Public Speaking class. The book is Public Speaking sixth edition by Osborn/Osborn. I highly recommend this informative book. Book covered on types of speaking, ethical, design, technique, and examples. It have everything you need to know about public speaking. It will take your inspirational speeches to the next level.

After you identify what you are passion about, your ambition and what do you stand to strive and then you are ready to touch many people’s life.
First, we will start of by brainstorming.

Get legal pad and pen or any way you jot your notes.

Ready?

Answer those question as you jot down.

STAGE 1

1. What is the things, the issues, or the perspectives that feeling so strong about?

2. How can your passion help other people who find the things, the issues, or the perspectives challenging?

3. What kind of possible audience you will face when speaking?

STAGE 2

Now have rough ideas of what topic and what type of audience you will face.

1. Which kind of approach will you use in speaking? Persuasive, motivational, informational, ceremonial, or demostration.

2. What kind of material will you need? props, visual aid, and, etc.

3. Length of the program? Take considerate of speaking time and room for questions.

STAGE 3

Now you have rough ideas what material you may develop.

1. Who is the organizer?

2. What is your fee? charity or paid? Rider contract? Transportation and hospitality covered?

3. Starting collaborate your research work and craft a speech.

STAGE 4

You are almost done with the development of speech. This is the ultimate stage that put the magic in your speaking.

1. Are you provide the solution to the problems? Do they get what they wanted?

2. Does it have foundations that people can easily understand and follow?

3. The Magic – Close your eye and visualization you giving the speaking toward and then place yourself in the audience ’s shoe. Ask yourself the question, what is the one word that will describe highlight of this speaking. If it doe not match the outcome of your result, go back to the drawing board until you find that magic the people wanted. Without magic, then what is the inspirational speech?

I WANT TO BE THAT PERSON
The speaker projects his voice so confidence and you find yourself mesmerized that you are eventually leave the room with fire in the belly. You may secret fantasized that you want successful in life just like that speaker who empowers you with his riveting stories. Good news, anybody can be successful just like that inspirational speech touched you.

Everybody have the confidence traits of an inspirational speaker. It is just that we went into life unknown. Maybe we are distracted ourselves by our responsibility of family, spouse, career and commitments. STOP! Take a breath. Relax. Take a good look at yourself. Ask yourself a question, “Who am I?” We may ask ourselves that question but we don’t answer it fully. When you begin to identify who you are and what are your purpose in life. Then somehow you begin to grow. You grow the confidence traits which are passion, ambitious, and belief.

PASSION

Passion is what you crave intensely. It is something that you love no matter how you face challenges yet you keep on going. The Chinese proverb simple put this down, “Fall seven times, stands eight times”. It is how you should be when you have that strong passion. It can be hobby, service, or career. If you are unsure what you are passion about. Then it is time for you take a vacation to reflect on your life. Make list of what you enjoy. Passion is something that you enjoy no matter what as long it make you happy. Retreat yourself to quiet place to do soul-searching. Take the time to unclutter your mind so that you can focus sharply to ignite convicitions.

AMBITIOUS

After passion is discover and then you will need an ambition. The ambition is your compass. What is your goal to accomplish? The ambitious of goals and purposes enable you to grow and continue discover more new thing in life that gain for the betterment. When you aspire to be great, it is your ambition. Ambition is result of passion you chase. You must have passion first to fuel the ambition, thus your compass. Ambition is your tool to success the goals in life.

BELIEF

You are what you think. The more you think positive and the chance you will see positives. The more you believe in yourself and the faster you will accomplish your goals. Part of your brain, reticular cortex, is activated. For example, you love the red car and eventually you find yourself see red cars more than any other colors. It is because you program your brain to seek for the information you desired. It is just like the tracer bullet that chase the target. Take time to look at financial, physical, spiritual, mental, career, family and personals of your life to see where you stand and what the improvement need to be made in order to find center in your life. Once you are centered and you will be able to focus on things better and starting to add spices to your life. Constant believe in yourself that you are successful and you will see the results.

ACTION

Spend this over next 21 days to make a new change in your life. When the change is made and commit it for next 13 weeks. Research show that it take 21 times to develop into a habit and 13 weeks for it to become automatic just like when you going to bed and you forgot to brush your teeth. Your body’s alarm going off and you automatically get out of bed to brush your teeth. To make sure you success in this endeavor is to have someone hold you accountable. You will want some one who will be straightforward with you and will said why or why not rather over tell you to or to not.

While you are in working, are you ready to learn what it take to make a great inspirational speech? Let’s take look at the tools the effective speaker use to craft their masterpiece.
